Who are we?
Designed and manufactured by Irish sculptor and artist Suzanne Clarke, the eponymously named Clarke's of Dublin is an award-winning range of luxurious handmade soaps borne from one woman’s passion.
Combining the creative force, artistic flair and substantial skill of Clarke herself, Clarke's of Dublin prides itself on harnessing the best of local Irish ingredients sourced from all around the country, including seaweeds harvested from the coasts of Galway and Donegal, beeswax from the Royal County Meath, goat's milk from Offaly and the very best Atlantic sea salt from West Cork. All carefully sourced raw materials are skillfully blended with the very best olive oil, coconut oil and essential oils to create solid bars of luxury for the ultimate in hand and body cleansing experiences.
“Soap is now my passion,” explains Clarke. “Although I never imagined I would end up making fine soaps, I have always been driven by my desire to create, whether that is a piece of art or sculpture, or something more practical like beauty products.
“Ireland has myriad magnificent raw materials that are just perfect to make cosmetics, especially beautiful soap. The brand may be called Clarkes of Dublin, but I am immensely proud that the ingredients are sourced the length and breadth of the country from the wild coast of Donegal all the way down to the rugged beaches of Co. Cork. I believe it is these ingredients that make the products so special.”
Initially trained as a sculptor in a Dublin college, Clarke later completed her education with a degree in Archaeology and History of Art from Trinity College Dublin. Always looking for new creative outlets, Clarke came across a library book on soap, was mentored by Melinda Coss, which set alight a brand new passion in her, which was to make the best soap on the market, an ambition that was finally fully realised earlier this year when Clarkes of Dublin was named Best Soap in the prestigious Social & Personal beauty awards.
Commercially, the response to Clarke's of Dublin has been outstanding. The products are now stocked by Irish Design Shop on Drury Street, The Little Museum on St Stephen’s Green, Avoca, The Donegal Shop, Avoca, Blarney Woollen Mills, Temple Bar Trading Company, Cait & I, Craft Makers, Meadow & Byrnes Glasnevin Museum.
